Discord has good UI Design

This website lists all the "great" design decisions made by Discord in the past and even now.
Note that the goal is not to attack anyone at Discord, but to simply show and poke fun at the mistakes they make.

Concept is inspired by the (Now sunsetted) website Twitter is going great!.

Discord allows Polls to be made by anyone without any way to disable it

08/04/2024
Submitted by: Andre601

After having it in a form of beta release has Discord started to publicly roll out their Poll feature to all servers.
This poll feature, while decent, lacks proper ways of moderation, as any user with Send Message channel permission can create a Poll without any way of preventing if, opening the floodgates for possible channel spam.

On the Mobile version of Discord are Code blocks (or inline code) barely noticable. The only thing is a thin outline for the code block and a slightly different monospaced font.

Inconsistent Emojis in Channel names

23/12/2022
Submitted by: Andre601

A long standing issue in Discord are unicode emojis in channel names. When used in a channel name will Discord display the raw unicode version of that emoji, rather than display the twemoji version they use within chat messages. This causes emojis to look completely different depending from what device you look at them.

This issue exists since basically the start of Discord and still confuses people to this day

Gifs slow down Android app

17/12/2022
Submitted by: Andre601

In a more recent update of the Android App can certain gifs cause the App to slow down (lag) significantly, while also causing your smartphone to heat up.

Additionally is the a11y (accessability) setting in the app to enable and disable auto-playing of gifs completely ignored when the gif is inside an Embed, resulting in gifs still playing in an embed while the setting has been turned off.

2023 Update: The issue of slowing down is still present to this day (08th of september 2023).

Discord switches Android code from Java/Kotlin to React

24/08/2022
Submitted by: Andre601

Discord has changed their Android App from originally being made in Java/Kotlin, to be made with React now.
Reasons for this move include the merging of the two app development teams to have one core team to work on both app distributions (Android and iOS).

However, as a result have countless bugs appeared which you could encounter without even forcing it.
Some of these bugs still exist months later and new ones are discovered too.

Submitted by: Andre601

On the 13th of May 2021 did Discord announce their new redesign, which included changes to a lot of things including their logo called "Clyde", their Watermark and colours used.
This choice received quite a bit of backlash from people which also included complains about accessability issues with the new colours.
